Dr. Chris Twigge-Molecey PEng., FCIM, FCAE

Senior Advisor, Hatch Ltd.

who will deliver an online presentation on:

The Belt and Road Initiative plus the Global Development Initiative: What’s in these initiatives for Canadians?

Abstract: The Belt and Road initiative is a major Chinese globe-spanning infrastructure and influence development project. At this point over 100 countries claim to be involved. Project capital spending may in total be between $4 and 8 billion USD by 2047. However, to date, the major beneficiaries of the project are Chinese companies and the overall initiative is faltering. The Global Development Initiative is China’s new thrust to superimpose “soft” influencing projects onto the BRI infrastructure and relationships. This talk will give an overview of how the BRI is structured and explore routes to Canadian involvement. Three case studies are presented.
