If you are an undergraduate student or graduate student looking for job ideas or simply more information about the BC mining industry – reserve this career fair in your calendars. You will enjoy a number of presentations showcasing how diverse the industry is.

Come discover what jobs are available in the fields of geoscience, exploration, development of projects, operating mines, educational institutions and local and international projects. You will also learn from the panel of presenters what their career paths looked like, how to think outside the box when looking for jobs and be able to ask the panel questions that you have always wondered about.

Some interesting Canadian mining facts:

  • Great pay, safe working environment, interesting and challenging work in a variety of occupations, travel and adventure – all these can be yours with a career in the mining industry. In Canada an estimated 80,000 people will be needed within the next ten years – with over 120 occupations to choose from.
  • High demand occupations in the mining industry include tradespeople, (millwrights, electricians, heavy equipment mechanics, mechanics, welders, pipefitters, steam engineers) miners, supervisors, heavy equipment operators, plant/mill operators, administrative services, engineers, technologists (environmental, instrumentation, laboratory) and geologists.
  • The mining industry is also a great employer offering job and career opportunities in a wide range of areas from exploration through production and processing to administration and marketing. All mining companies offer extensive training to their employees.
  • The Canadian mining is a technological leader with over 80% of the work force using advanced technology.

9:15 – Welcoming remarks and introduce panel

9:23 – Gordon Clarke, Ministry of Energy and Mines, presents on state of the mining industry and projects in the pipeline

9:40 – Kosta Sainis (Environmental Superintendent) presents on working at Endako Mine and experience in the industry.

9:55 – Sean Ennis (Vice-President Mining, Norwest Corporation) presents on his experience in the industry

10:10 – Stephen Day (Consultant, SRK Consulting) presents on his experience in the industry

10:25 – Andrea Clifford (Director of Development, GeoscienceBC) presents on her experience as a geologist

10:40 – Floor opens to Q & A

11:00 – Panel concludes

11:00 – 12:00 – Networking opportunity
