2024 CIM MES-COSMO Scholarship Award Recipient

CIM MES is delighted to announce that the 2024 MES-COSMO Scholarship recipient is Philippe Marchand.

 

Philippe Marchand is a Mining Engineering student at McGill University pursuing a minor in Software Engineering. He has contributed to various aspects of mining operations through his internships. Starting as a Reliability Intern at Agnico Eagle’s Meadowbank Complex, he moved on to a Mine Engineer – Projects Intern role at the Meliadine Project, focusing on operational improvements, data analytics and business intelligence. Currently serving as a Data Analyst Intern, Philippe is involved in a business intelligence project to enhance operational data monitoring at Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd. His journey showcases a commitment to integrating engineering principles with the latest technological advancements to address the challenges of the mining industry with innovative solutions.

 

The CIM MES-COSMO Scholarship: The Management & Economics Society (MES) of CIM together with the COSMO Mining Industry Consortium (AngloGold Ashanti Ltd., Anglo American plc, BHP, De Beers Group, IAMGOLD Corp., Kinross Gold Corp., Newmont Corp., Vale SA) established the CIM MES – COSMO Scholarship (“scholarship”) that is valued at CAD $4,000 per year. The scholarship is intended to provide financial support for mining engineering undergraduate students who are enrolled in Canadian universities, and have a focus on strategic mine planning optimization under uncertainty and related technical risk management.
