who will deliver an online presentation on:

Copper Price Outlook, 2021-23: Global Decarbonization & the Shift to Electric Vehicles and Renewable Energy

Abstract: Copper – a ‘critical mineral’ vital for global decarbonization and digitalisation – climbed to a new record high in May 2021 amid investment fund sentiment for a ‘green recovery’ and strong demand in China and other consuming countries coming out of the 2020 global ‘lockdown’. Prices eased back over the summer months, but have recently strengthened again alongside an inventory squeeze on the LME (London Metal Exchange). While a wave of new mine development may ease supplies in coming years, copper prices will likely remain on a higher plane medium-term – underpinned by rising demand from the shift to the electric vehicle and renewable energy.

BIO: Patricia Mohr is the former Vice-President, Economics and Commodity Market Specialist at Scotiabank’s Executive Offices in Toronto, where she worked, for many years, with Corporate and Investment Banking – including the Mining team – with International Banking and with Global Risk Management.

Ms. Mohr developed the ‘Scotiabank Commodity Price Index’ – the first index designed to measure price trends for Canadian commodities in export markets and wrote a widely-read commodity market report. Patricia is a frequent speaker at international mining conferences such as ‘China Mining’ in Beijing and Tianjin, the 11th ‘International Gold & Silver Symposium’ in Lima Peru, PDAC in Toronto and the AME ROUNDUP in Vancouver.

Ms. Mohr recently launched a new report – ‘CRITICAL METALS FOR A SUSTAINABLE WORLD’ – published by Capitalight Research Inc. of Toronto. The report focuses on the outlook for copper, nickel, lithium and 3 of the 17 rare earth elements — vital to global decarbonization through the electric car and renewable energy. Patricia is optimistic that Canada can lead in the global supply chain for ‘critical minerals’. Business opportunities for Canadian mining & processing companies are identified.

Ms. Mohr holds an Honours B.A. Degree and an M.A. Degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia. Patricia was recently honoured to receive the 2021 ‘Robert Elver Award in Mineral Economics’ from the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).

Ms. Mohr is a Director of the Centre for Research & Innovation in the Bio-Economy (CRIBE & Nextfor) in Ontario and has been a Director of Avalon Advanced Materials and Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA) – channeling public funds into leading-edge R&D for GHG mitigation. Since inception, ERA has funded over $646 million of R&D projects, leveraged 6.1:1 with industry and Canadian government partners to yield $4.5 billion of investment in clean technology.

Prior to joining Scotiabank, Ms. Mohr spent a number of years with Alberta Energy Co. Ltd. (EnCana) in Calgary and with CP Ships and Canadian Pacific Bermuda in London, England as Corporate Economist. Patricia enjoyed working with senior management on ship charter and investment strategy for the company’s international tanker and bulk carrier fleet. Ms. Mohr began her career as a mineral economist with the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources in Ottawa (now Natural Resources Canada).
