who will deliver an online presentation on:

 

Outlook for the Global and Canadian Economies, with a Focus on Energy and Mining

 

Abstract: This presentation will preview the key themes of the January 2026 Bank of Canada Monetary Policy Report, focusing on the outlook for the global and Canadian economies. Bank of Canada economists will explain the rationale behind the Bank’s current monetary policy stance, highlight the key risks and uncertainties shaping the outlook, and discuss recent developments in the energy and mining sectors. A Q&A will follow.

 

About our presenters:

BIO: Crystal Arnburg is the Regional Director (Economics) at the Bank of Canada’s Regional Office for British Columbia and the Yukon. In this capacity, she oversees the Business Outlook Survey for the region and supports analysis on economic issues relevant to the Bank’s monetary policy objectives. Ms. Arnburg also plays a major role in communicating the Bank’s messages to a variety of external audiences and promoting an exchange of views on the economy and monetary policy.

BIO: Farrukh Suvankulov is the Regional Director (Economics) at the Calgary Regional Office of the Bank of Canada, where he oversees regional economic analysis, including the energy, mining, and agricultural sectors, as well as business surveys and outreach activities across the Prairie Provinces and Northwest Territories. Prior to joining the Bank of Canada, Dr. Suvankulov conducted research at the RAND Corporation, focusing on U.S. labor market dynamics. Dr. Suvankulov holds a Ph.D. in Economic Policy Analysis from the RAND Graduate School of Public Policy and a Master of Arts in Economics from Yale University. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Economic Modelling, Energy Policy, and The Journal of International Trade & Economic Development.
