For its Monday, December 15, 2025, Discussion Group seminar, CIM’s Management and Economics Society (MES), as part of its quarterly Perspectives & Insights on Metals and Mines series, is pleased to welcome:
Rob McEwen
Chairman & Chief Owner of McEwen Inc – MUX on NYSE & TSX
who will deliver an online presentation on:
Houston, We Have A Big Problem With Solutions
Abstract: McEwen Mining and McEwen Copper are dedicated to finding new ways to strengthen the image of mining, inspire more young people to join the industry, and raise awareness of mining as an essential pillar of modern life. Across the Western world, the sector is confronting a serious shortage of skilled workers, driven by demographic shifts and a lack of interest among new talent who are choosing not to enter the field. The implications are significant: without the necessary workforce and expertise, we risk falling short in expanding existing mines or developing new projects that are vital to meeting the world’s growing demand for metals.
Industry advocates have long reminded us that modern civilization is built on the products of mining. They emphasize that the sector offers well-paying jobs and meaningful opportunities for career advancement, yet these messages often go unheard. It is clear that mining needs a fresh perspective and a renewed public image. That is why McEwen, through its operations and projects, is working to reshape public opinion while also educating communities about the indispensable role mining plays in sustaining modern society.
An example of this commitment is the McEwen Copper project at Los Azules in Argentina, which serves as a model of environmental stewardship. This project places environmental care at the forefront and ensures that its ESG standards remain strong and uncompromising. Los Azules represents the mine of the future; designed to be environmentally responsible, visually appealing, supportive of employee well-being, and capable of challenging negative perceptions of the industry. Beyond its environmental leadership, Los Azules is also a world-class copper deposit and is set to become one of the world’s first regenerative copper mines when it begins operations in 2030.
The presentation will close with a look at McEwen’s gold and silver operations, highlighting efforts to increase production and reduce costs. It will also provide an outlook on the gold markets, examine Argentina’s role, and review other major copper projects competing on the global stage.

About CIM MES’ Mineral Economics Discussion Group:
Since the mid-1980s, meetings of the Mineral Economics Discussion Group have taken place approximately once per month in Toronto between September and April. A regular program of meetings has taken place in Vancouver since 2015 and in Montreal since 2017. Speakers have addressed almost every aspect of the minerals industry except for strictly technical topics in geology, mining, and metallurgical engineering. A collegial, seminar-style atmosphere is fostered in order to allow lively discussion and exchange of ideas, with opportunities to network and socialize at live events. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, a full program has been maintained in a webinar format that better serves all our CIM and CIM MES members and guests throughout Canada and internationally.
