B2Gold: Views from the World’s Newest Senior Gold Producer on Managing Regulatory, Political and Country Risk
B2Gold is the world’s newest senior gold producer with global gold production projected to reach nearly one million ounces in 2019. With five operating mines abroad, B2Gold has a proven history of acquiring, discovering, financing, building and operating profitable gold mines in often challenging jurisdictions, including Mali, Namibia, the Philippines and Nicaragua.
Exploration and development projects are ongoing in Burkina Faso, Colombia and Finland.
Representatives of B2Gold will speak to the challenges of managing regulatory, political and country risk for an international gold miner, and how the company has been so successful in growing from zero production in 2007 when it was founded, to becoming a major gold producer today.
Mike Cinnamond has served as our Senior Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer since April 1, 2014. Mr. Cinnamond oversees the financial reporting, cash management and tax planning of B2Gold as well as financial compliance and reporting to the regulatory authorities. Prior to joining us, Mr. Cinnamond was an audit partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP where he was the BC Resources Leader for the Mining, Forestry and Energy and Utilities practices. Mr. Cinnamond has 19 years of experience in the mining industry sector. Mr. Cinnamond is currently a director of the Canadian Institute of Mining, and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of BC. Mr. Cinnamond holds an LL.B designation from the University of Exeter.
Neil Reeder joins B2Gold following a distinguished government career of over 35 years with Global Affairs Canada. He helped advance Canada’s trade, foreign policy and development agenda during seven different diplomatic postings overseas and in increasingly senior positions in Ottawa. His previous ambassadorial postings include serving as Canada’s High Commissioner to Brunei and as Canadian Ambassador to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras.
